Preparing RA Roadmap PDF Print E-mail

The first I joined UMOBILE, I presented a high level of RA roadmap to my boss. One of his comment was the presentation looks like vendor presentation. What to expect in the first week of your job as manager? From my 1 week observation,the company maturity of RA is at level 1, it meants the controls are on manual basis and adhoc,there is no formal RA activities and no RA business process defined. So,it will be my task to defined all the basic fundamental of RA and performed execution. The most important part is the delivery of results. 

 

I could see that getting management support on RA activities is extremely important. Without this,you can execute RA across the company. It would be difficult to get engagement with other party if you failed to approach systematically.So,the current approach with I which had been agreed with my bos was from top down level approach. 

 

Importance of RA had been known widely by all management level. The question will be how to implement RA and customize the program according to the local environment. The importance of getting RA to suits with local needs was whole purpose of doing RA. This is my believe. I read through talkra.com and someone introduced some fantastic KPI or some bombarstic word to describe their RA activties like RA Vector or revenue management or revenue etc. To me, if this new idea can't work in your company,I believe,it's a failure. Because, there is no use introducing some 'great' ideas of RA , you can can't address the most basic and fundamental of RA. 

 

I'm preparing the RA Roadmap for 2 years plan in UMOBILE. I found difficulty to explain the idea and dimension of RA which I used to in DiGi. As you know, DiGi had a successfully run RA program and this had been acknowledged by the PWC in their audits around 2009. DiGi scored 3.9 maturity against 5.

UMRAH 

 

From 5th of July till 11July,I was away for Umrah. My flight was SV 630 reach Madinah at 10 pm of 5th July. The different time between Madinah and KL is around 5 hours away.So,but the time I reach Madinah,people there was start having dinner and my kids at home was having lonely night sleep without their father.

 

The 5 days trip was very exciting. I spent 2 days in Madinah and 4 days in Makkah.In Madinah,I stayed in Madinah Hilton,5 star hotel with luxury breakfast like any hotel you can fine in the world. The hotel was not far from Masjid Nabawi because once you step out from the hotel,you can step into the gate of Masjid Nabawi.However,getting into near makam Nabi s.w.t will require you to walk at least 5-7 minutes from the hotel. It was very far. Alhamdulilah,praise to Allah,I managed several times spent time in Raudhah.

 

In Madinah, I bought 4 books. It was my habit to by books anywhere I travel.

1. Sirah Nabawiyah.

2. Riaudus Sholehin Jilid1.

3. Riaudus Sholehin Jilid2.

4. Terjemahan Al-Quran.

 

All these books were original in Arabic and were translated into Indonesia Language by Indonesian student study in University of Madinah or University of Makkah. While I was there,I met with a lot of student either Malaysia,Indonesia,or from Pattani. I enjoyed meeting them as they help me to organize trip to many places in Madinah.

 

I reach Makkah on 7July and alhamdulilah had performed 3 times of Umrah. Before that,just to tell you that we travel from Madinah to Makkah for 5 hours by GMC,a short name for MPV vehicle from U.S .This type of vehicle was very popular among Arabs as it can be used to travel long distance against the desert sand. GMC come with 3.4 liter capacity and powered by V6 cylinder. Alhamdulilah,I travel with much comfort compare to other pilgrims who travel by bus.

 

In Makkah,I stayed in Zam Zam Hotel. I heard that this hotel was occasionally used by Kings,politician and rich people. My brother in law told me the charges for daily was around RM700++ per day. Expensive! Alhamdulilah, again I had the opportunity to stay here,with nice breakfast and nice bed to sleep.However, since the hotel is near to Haram(Masjidil Haram) , i tried to spent less time on the bed. 

 

The temperature was 58 degrees during day time and 41 degress at night. Alhamdulilah,again I was very happy to spend Umrah and I believe this was a gift from Allah s.w.t after all dramatic memories and difficulty in Celcom. I was never regret to left Celcom.

 

UMOBILE

 

1 day I reach KL back from Umrah,I join UMobile the next day.I felt tired as time change and wheather changed,but I felt fine on my first day.Alhamdulilah, I managed myself in UMobile comfortably.

 

2 days later,the CFO was asking me to join him to Singapore for 1 day trip. Just to learn from Starhub on the Revenue Assurance implementation and what we can learn from them. Unfortunately,when we reached there, we found that the RA implementation was not as complete as we understand.Some of their controls were still manual and in summary level. They don't have any RA system. So, the expectation was dissappointed but the CFO learnt on other things from Starhub especially on Finance operation activity.

 

The Singapore was a 1 day trip through Air Asia. The next day,everybody come to office as usual. I managed to grap 1 controversial book.The book was 'Mahather Maverick', a book which was banned in Malaysia. In the flight back to KLIA,I realised why the book was banned.I believe the reason was because Barry Wain focus more on judging Mahathir on his bad side. I believe, we all know that Mahathir had done good and bad during his term,but as a Malaysian,I will always judge him as a good leader. He managed to bring Malaysia to become one of 'Tiger of Asia' as claimed by many economic journalist during 1990s.

 

I still continued reading this book,but it would not changed my believe to Dr.Mahathir. He had done a lot to the country and we should thank him for his contribution.

I have decided to remove my previous entry about Celcom after an advise from my friend.I'm not sure how this blog got spread wildly. The reason I'm published my post was to say the truth nothing than the truth only.

 

Walaupun berat sekali pun,kebenaran tetap benar.Tetapi untuk menjaga hubungan baik,saya telah remove entry blog sebelumnya.

 

Saya minta maaf sekiranya posting tersebut menguris hati sesiapa. Tetapi saya tak berniat untuk memalukan mana-mana pihak.Niat saya hanyalah untuk menyuarakan pendapat secara professional.

Today, I quit Celcom project.I felt very happy and satisfied because.

1. I gained knowledge on Subex product.

2. I gained patient facing very demanding customer like Celcom.

3. I gained experience seeing problems and issues facing by Subex on managed services.

 

I have to thank to Subex who give me such opportunity to be part of Subexians.I'm very happy being Subexians only for 11 months. I felt relief leaving Celcom for few reason.

1. I don't see any maturity in Celcom RA. People are comfortable looking into reports rather than exceptions results.

2. The way of doing investigation were very poor. RA should firstly understand end to end value chain which will give bigger picture,impact and analysis.

 

3. Celcom copied the impact analysis report template from DiGi.

4.Celcom RA give bad impression to vendor. I felt I was threated like a slave. 

 

Because of these reason and some other reason,I have decided to quit Celcom project.Basically I prefer to stay in Subex,but because of Celcom situation,I felt it would be better for me to leave. This will give me more opportunity to build my career in Revenue Assurance rather than stuck in Celcom doing unnecessary thing.

In Malay,we used to say "Mamat nie kerek la......!". I'm not sure where does this word 'kerek' means but for sure it use to refer to people who are ignorance,toilsome,parsimonious,stinting and inhospitable.

This weekend,I'm going back to hometown.I missed my father very much.He passed away  in front of me on Friday morning around 7 am of 2April2010. I remember telling him about my work in Celcom and he advice me to get other job as he pray for me. Alhamdulilah,I have 2 more weeks in Celcom and I can't wait stop all this nonsense request from Celcom.

 History remain as it is. We have to move on. Insyallah....
